Hello, and welcome to my walking life!
Well it's no secret, I walk. And by this I mean I do not own a car, nor do I see myself doing so in the near foreseeable future. This may seem quite normal if you reside anywhere in Europe, but trust me when I say: it's definitely out of the ordinary here. Here, when I walk on the streets with grocery bags in my hands, I feel like people look at me and think "Shame, where is her car?" or "Shame, should I offer her a lift?" or "Shame, why is she walking?" - you get the picture. ('Here' is Cape Town, South Africa).
So why do I walk? Because I love it, of course. I love the whiff of fresh sea air that envelops me as I step out the front door. I love the skies - set against the mountain backgdrop they are always just so damn beautiful, no matter the time of day. I love moving my body and find my mood improves 10-fold when I get myself out into nature and moving my body, especially seeing as my line of work involves sitting rigorously at a desk. I love all the experiences so generously gifted to me by this city and it's nature - the sun filtering through a frangipani tree overhead;
But how did I come to be a walker? Well, there are two main parts to this: 1) I have a back injury, and while I won't get into the details too much, my physical therapist strongly encouraged me start walking more and more often. 2) I lived in Paris where walking is as normal as stopping at the Boulanjerie in the evenings after work to collect one's daily dinner baguette. (I'll cover this in more detail some other time). For now, let's keep this short and (hopefully) sweet:
I'm Karma (yes, that's my real name), and I'm a city walker explorer adventurer appreciator lover and all round curious & strange individual. I would've to us this blog to show you just some of the beautiful things I experience on a daily basis. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I have.
Until soon, and thank you for stopping by!
